lucylou
Hi I am trying to import a sketch up model into VW. But nothing seems to happen when I go through the steps. Any ideas on whats going on? Thanks Lucy Quote Link to comment
cwailes
I believe it has to be a sketch up model version 7 or earlier. I have problems doing the same when it is a complex model. I usually end up bringing the sketch up file into another 3D program and then export it to a 3DS file. Quote Link to comment
mike m oz
If the SU file is a version 8 file then Lucy's three year old version of Vw 2010 will not be able to import it. Quote Link to comment
lucylou
Really? my TWO year old version of VW (its only 2012 folks!) is not compatible with Sketch up? how ridiculous is that???! Any comments to make from VW people? I note they are keeping quiet... Quote Link to comment
Christiaan
v2010 of VW came out in September 2009 v8 of Sketchup came out in September 2010. Quote Link to comment
lucylou
Of course. that makes sense! so are you saying that only the current version of VW works with the current version of Sketchup etc? Quote Link to comment
VincentCuclair
Well it should be quite logical, first a certain version of SketchUp needs to exist for the programmers at NVs to create the correct import capabilities in VWs.........NVs usually are good at being able to import the latest file types assuming they were released before the actual VWs version. rDesign
lucylou- Do a 'File > Save As' from SketchUp and simply pull down an older SketchUp version such as v7 (which works with your Vw2010). Many of the files available on the 3dWarehouse are v8 only, so you'll need to get used to doing this. You should know that you won't get any textures if you import SketchUp files into Vw via 'File > Import Sketchup'. If you want the SketchUp textures you need to export the file to 3DS format from SketchUp. Please refer to this other post I wrote on how to properly do this: Re: Help with rendering 3DS, DWG and SketchUp files I never use the 'Import SketchUp' function because I find that is so limited. I import 3DS files instead. HTH. Quote Link to comment
lucylou
Perfect rDesign Thank you! I thought it should be something simple like that! thanks very much, Lucy Quote Link to comment
