JTompson
What is this? This error comes up when I am trying to export a file to dwg. How come VW does not list error types somewhere and give a thurough explanation? Frustrated Quote Link to comment
Guest
Do you know what version DWG file you are importing? What version of VW are you using? An Error Type 3 is it "can't open file". Make sure the file is not in use by another application, the file name doesn't have wierd characters in the name such as slashes, dashes or periods. Quote Link to comment
JTompson
Thanks Katie, but... I'm using both VW 8.5.2 & 9.5.1. Same problem with the Export function. And yes, I have been using proper dwg naming syntax. And no, there are no other files with the same name. So, what is happening here. VW problem? or file problem? Thanks Quote Link to comment
Guest
If the file is open by another application on the computer, that could cause the problem. You shouldn't get an OpenDWG Error Type 3 when exporting from VW 8 nor 9. If you want to send the dwg to me to look at, I'll try it out here. I also have AutoCad so I can look at the file with that to determine the problem. tech@nemetschek.net ATTN: Katie Quote Link to comment

islandmon
This error may be related to an open resource in the orginal Acad file. For example the file may be linking to a resource(s) that was not included in the DWG save ... only the alias to the resource. Hence the inability to locate a Library 'symbol' object. Christiaan
In my case I found the problem to be an errant dimension that was off the page somewhere, which I couldn't see. To select it I had to 'select all' and then deselect everything within my page boundary. I then deleted the errant dimension and was able to export an uncorrupted DWG file. Quote Link to comment
