Automatically changing all selected objects to Plane = Layer

Is there any way a script could be written so that when the

eventDialog pops up: 'the objects must be on the same plane'

that the Plane dropdown in the Object Info box could be automatically changed to Layer for all objects in current selection?

I am not a scripter but is this doable?

There is a script available at Vector Depot which does this.
