exref in a DWG file

thats incredibly annoying..... just played around with it.

what we want to do is basically turn off all of the classes we dont want in a file and then reference it in...... which seems to be fine, but then when we want to replace the dwg in the master file, it looks like we have to go through the whole process of turning things off and on again, before we then update our reference in our working file.

is there any way round this

Best practice is to import a Dwg into its own file then reference that file into your main VW file. This prevents all of the detritus from the Dwg file such as classes etc from infecting your working file.

Just a thought, but if you re-imported a fresh dwg into same Dwg base file, the class via abilities will persist from previous settings.

Several ways i see to do that:

- when you have imported the first dwg and have all the correct classes hidden/showing, save the view. You can then either import the new dwg into this file and use the saved view settings. (I think it is possible to have saved views as resource brouwser objects thus exportable and applicable to other/new files.)

- class visibility is saved in DLVPs so when you replace the first vwx file with the imported dwg with a new one the classes should keep their visibility settings providing they have the same names as before. Btw VP settings can be copied and applied to other VPs with the attribute tool.

- pdfs created in cad apps and imported in vwx as xrefs retain snap capability, this could be a usable alternative, simply replace the original pdf with the new when changes are made.
