Christian Fekete
It seems to me that due to the complication of all the parametric walls and its limitations (high windows in plan, etc.) that it is much easier to actually model in extrusions and create sections as needed for plan views etc... Anyone using it that way for architecture drawings? Obviously this becomes just a 3d modeling and the architecture features and BIM promotions become useless. Basically a dumbed down VW Quote Link to comment
Dieter @ DWorks
I use multiple symbols for this. Quote Link to comment

Christian Fekete
I find it much quicker than trying to figure out how to setup each and every tool. For example: How do you show windows in a gable wall at different heights in a floor plan using the walls in architect? Quote Link to comment
Christiaan
Due to the limitations of VWA parametric tools, yes, it's good to have these workarounds. But I would rather the parametric tools were fixed. So for instance you could just put a window in a gable end wall. In fact I think it's because of the ability to model freeform that the parametric capabilities in VWA have been neglected. Quote Link to comment
Alan H
What version of Vectorworks are you using? I think the parametrics is best...but, the really frustrating thing is there are many options of how to do things but no designated VW workflow, so it takes a while to grasp how everything works and lots of trail and error along the way to see what works and doesn't. The Vectorworks YouTube videos help and if you are signed up to the VSS they also have quite a few useful videos their too, (there are also a number of VW trainers if you want to go down this route). Vectorworks, Inc Employee Mark Mullany Posted September 27, 2012 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted September 27, 2012 Maybe I'm misunderstanding here but you can put a window in a gable end wall and show high up windows [see attached] Select the roof object and tell it not to draw its own gable walls. Use fit to roof - if its an attic I'd make new walls on their own layer. As for the window under 3D Visualisation in the window dialogue click Clerestory. Then as long as your window is above the dash height it will be represented differently. You can customise the graphics under 2D visualisation. Anyway hope thats of help Quote Link to comment
