Lighting Instruments do not accept color changes?

Recommended Posts

Can anyone please tell me why when I right click a light, select "edit" and change the color the light remains white when I render?

This "light" inside of the lighting device is controlled by the color field of the lighting device.

What color did you enter in the color filed of the lighting device?

I selected a blue color from the drop down, and then tried a pink. No change.

Can you also help explain why when I select a light fixture, right click, there are two edit options. "edit", and "edit light" They both have their own field for color?

These menu's should be combined...just a suggestion. thanks for the quick response with my issue.

All you need to do is enter the color in the OIP Color field.

Use the first letter of the manufacturer and the color number.

i.e., L200 will cause the light to render w/ Lee 200 blue

R26 will cause the light to render Rosco 26 red

Thanks MichaelK, but I already know how to do that, and your suggestion has no real bearing on my issue. The color is already in the OIP, but it remains plan white in the render.

Again, What color are you entering into the lighting device color field?

Vectorworks needs to translate "L200" to a real color for the light. If you enter "L300" you will get white because that color does not exist. (Unless you have a color named "L300" in your document, then it will use that color.)

Try entering 255,0,0 as the color. The light should be Red.

The color filed can accept several different formats:

RGB values separated by commas (such as 191,49,26); values must be between 0 and 255

Manufacturer color codes, by manufacturer name or abbreviation and color number (such as Gam 650, G 650, G-650, or G650)

Name of the color as specified in the file?s color palettes

Web hex values prefixed by the pound sign (such as #003366)

There is an "Edit" and an "Edit Light..." because there are some advanced lighting options that are only available in the Edit Light menu.

I think the menus should be combined. I am selecting a color from the built in color palette.

The reason for not combining them is now obvious in 2013, I just could not say anything when this was posted.

You now have the ability to set the color of the geometry of the lighting device in 2013 by using the attributes palette. The color of the rendered light produced by the lighting device needs to be controlled separately.
