Timber framing graphics in Section Viewports

Is there any way to automatically show a cross (or dressed timber hatch) on timber framing members in a Section Viewport section? Like you can with the 2D Detail Cut Wood tool.

I use class overrides to adjust the appearance of objects I want more detail in my section VP's.

Theres a challenge.

I use 2D graphic overlays for that graphic.

In the US version it's the Detail Wood Cut tool with config. set to Rough and show size unchecked.

Yeah but it's the Framing Member tool he's using.

I also want to know this, because I also can't get it to work. I hate doing manual overlays for this.

If only they draw the cross in 3D so that it shows up in the sections, .... It can't be that difficult.

Hope the attached file help clarify the section VP Class override to display the "section Style cut block. It is possible with the 'Tiles' to achieve the look.

Thanks John. How did you do it in the original file you posted further above? There's no cross tile in that file (only a wood grain one).

I didn't do it in the previous file. It wasn't original posted in the file, just the wood grain hatch. Looks as if the screen shot is of a un rendered section VP with the save viewport cache turned off.

Haha, of course, I was being dopey! Nice one.

I like the class override method the best but the problem with it is that it adds crosses to everything on that class (including say timber framed walls) no matter which way you cut through it, so you have to anticipate this and class things appropriately. Not as easy as it sounds in some scenarios.

Another little hitch. Class override method doesn't work with rotated framing members:

Still think they should draw those crosses in 3D, it's the only way they will show up correctly in sections.
