They don't apply to 3D objects, that's what textures are for (but requiring RenderWorks).The most simple solution, would be to take the 3D object. Select it and use the convert copy to lines command. When prompted select hidden line rendering. You can then use the static hatch command in the tool menu to apply a fill to the area enclosed by the lines. Now since this will generate a 2D object superimposed on the 3D one, you may wish to save a sheet so you can quickly go back to that view.
