Custom Modification Tool

Is there still no way in version 2012 to make the Custom Modification tool act on objects inside Symbols?

I've got an AutoCAD drawing with hundreds of symbols, each with objects that are off-class coloured....in yellow. I don't want to edit each one so that I can change the lines to black to see them.

Workarounds using black-and-white view are not helpful.

Perhaps you could do it faster in AutoCAD? TrueView/Draftsight

Of course you can do that but why not in VW

Has the Custom Modification Tool changed since VW 2008?

Been down this path many times ? in the end convert to group the AutoCAK file

Modify Convert to Group / Ungroup and reference in as an external

Then you can change what you like

If you are brave bring in the geometry you want ? I NEVER do that

This is easy with vector script.

I know it is a big ask to learn how to program for a simple thing.

However if you post a request on the script forum you might get someone to do it

If it's that easy why do NV only implement half-solutions when writing their tools? The Custom Modification tool COULD be a really powerful and useful feature, but without being able to edit symbols it's almost useless.

The Custom Selection Tool does have the option to search/select inside of symbols, as well as plugin objects and viewport annotations. But I just tried it and even though it correctly lists the number of objects that are inside a symbol and that meet the selection parameters, when it's run it doesn't seem to select anything. I never have been able to get it to actually select things inside symbols. But maybe I'm misunderstanding it's use. Or not doing something I should be. Does anyone know how to get Custom Selection to select inside of Symbols, like it seems to suggest it can do?
