659design
Can someone describe the best way to draw 3D polygons while in an isometric view. I'm a long time user but all of my 3D modeling has been done by extruding 2D shapes and moving either the working plane or the shape itself. I've been working in AutoCAD lately and found 3D modeling from an isometric view to be more effective. I've been trying to adopt this method to VW 10.5 but I get un-expected results. All suggestion are appreciated... Quote Link to comment
rjtiedeman
I am also a long time VW user and I have been using FormZ. You are right it is sometimes easier to work in 3d space. However Vectorworks is not there yet. If you draw 3d shapes as a guide and use the snap to points with the 3d polygon tool you can draw in 3d space. It works but its really faster to draw from orthographic views. Quote Link to comment
659design
So, what your saying is that the 3d Poly tool is indexed to the screen plane rather than the ground or working plane? The only difference between the 2d & 3d poly tool is the ability to specify a Z dimension. Quote Link to comment
Delmer
The 3D poly will default snap to the ground plane or other working plane, whichever is active, unless over-ridden by snapping to an object point off that plane. Quote Link to comment
659design
So it should then be possible to draw while in an Isometric view. If the tool remains indexed to the working plane then it should be possible to enter I,J,K coordinates for that plane? Quote Link to comment
