billtheia
Just did a little testing in RW2012, looking at the effect of bounces and HDRI on interior renders. Here are examples showing 0, 1, 2, and 4 bounces from a single heliodon light at 100%: Quote Link to comment
billtheia
And here's the same scene, adding HDRI lighting at 100%, 200%, and 400%. Quote Link to comment
billtheia
I'd say that the addition of bounces has completely eliminated the need for area lights in RW2011 & 12. I'm SO glad. Adding and managing area lights was a pain and I could never get it to give truly realistic results. Another good source for HDRI backgrounds is here: http://www.evermotion.org/tutorials/show/7928/free-hdri-cd-collection-from-evermotion I used one in the renders above. Quote Link to comment
willofmaine
Thanks Bill for the studies and for the additional links to some more HDRI backgrounds. They look cool! Now all I need to do is learn a bit more about how to use them... Clearly, it looks like thinking outside the 100% is 100% box when it comes to the brightness of HDRIs is key... I'm very much with you when it comes to area lights; they can be a lot of work! Quote Link to comment
