Copper roof

Does anyone have a good idea on how to go about modeling a roof like this? Should I use lofts, nurbs, etc? What would be your approach to it?

Extrude Along Path should work...

Depends on the exact geometry, but that would be a good, simple place to begin.

Is there a way to do this with a roof face? Or does it have to be modeled?

Roof faces are always planar.

You will have to model it.

I would start from a cross-section, extrude it and in Top-Plan view Split it at the corners and use this curve as a starting point for the return surfaces.

i would use 3 extrusions, one for each part of the roof

so what shape(s) did you start with? Did you work in top plan view? I have had hardly any practice using the lofting tools in VW.

Start in front view create an arc no fill, convert to nurbs.

Top plan mirror 90? & duplicate in place.

Duplicate array given distance.

Left isometric view use Loft surface tool to create the two

separate nurbs surfaces.

Click on the first two nurbs curves a red line will appear hit enter or

click the green tick in the tool bar a window will appear and okay.

Repeat for the second set of nurbs curves back to top plan and mirror first

nurbs surface.

(Sometimes it goes funny, undo repeat the steps but click the next button

before okaying)
