Having Trouble getting stories correct

Recommended Posts

I am trying to build / stack my stories but can's seem to get correct.

Here is my issue.

Footings 12" deep, bottom of footing 18" below ground level

so footing elevation should be -18"

Foundation wall (38" tall) want 32" showing above ground, sits on top of footing so elevation should be -6"

Foundation slab elevation should be -18" at 4" thick

First floor (slab) 10" thick elevation should be 32" as it sits on foundation wall

First floor walls (9' tall) sit on 1st floor slab, elevation should be 42".

And so on up to the roof

Am I missing something here?

OK.

I need to get this down.

It appears to be quicker than setting up Design Layers.

Instead of my setting the elevation of the bottom of the slab, you are saying to set it as the top of the slab?

When I try and set the bottom of the foundation wall to sit on the top of the footing I get the overlay with footing error message.

Yes - unless you have defined your slab differently, the slabs that come in the libraries typically have a datum component set to the top component, so their top will sit at the layer elevation.

Click the Slab tool and click the preferences button on the Tool bar. Choose one of the standard slabs and you'll see the check mark next to the component that is the "datum". This will sit at the elevation of the layer.

Thanks, did not think of that.

Will keep at it.

The other software I use does not require this.

All done automatically.

There is an option to have the exterior (siding, etc) to cover the floor below.

Would great to have this or at least be able to set the vertical height and offset of the outer wall layer when defining walls.

I mean VW does not allow for the outer wall surface to cover the floor, at least not in past versions.

If you draw a floor (joists) to outside of bearing wall component with walls sitting on top of the floor, the (siding, brick) will not cover the face of the rim joist. For that matter, neither will the wall sheathing.

This means we have to do work arounds in sections.
