Membrane Detail Drawing

I am curious as to how people are doing detail drawings of the various membranes (i.e. air barrier, water barrier, etc.) where the relative size of the membranes is exaggerated for clarity. I've been working on it but can't quite get the "look" I want, and it is time consuming, so I am wondering if the is some obvious tips or tricks I am missing.

For a waterproof membrane or vapor barrier on a 2D detail, I usually use a .35mm or .5mm solid line or polyline, on a similarly attributed class named "Line-Thick". Classes are great for globally defining line thicknesses for 2D details. I seldom use a line thicker than .5mm.

I have used 2 overlayed lines or polylines. Draw membrane profile and give it a black color and thickness suitable for the scale of the drawing or detail. Duplicate it in place and change the second object to white in color, select a thinner line and a dash style then group.

You will have to play around with the settings to get the graphic appearance you need.

It all would be much simpler with a "membrane tool".

In VW 2011 you could draw the membrane using the wall tool with a tile fill.

Make the wall thickness approx 3mm depending on the scale the detail is at and create an approriatly scaled tile fill set to rotate in walls.

shouldn't you be using the Linear Material tool?
