Downsave VW2011 to VW2008 ?

Recommended Posts

I have VW 2008 and received a .vwx but it is from a new version. Is there any converter available to downsave this newer version to VW 2008? I have a dwg converter that does this for dwg's of different versions but can't find anything like that for VW.

This post resurrects a topic of considerable debate over the years.

Why is it that mmoriarty's uniquely-derived-laboriously-CADified-proprietary and fully functional Vectorworks format saved files must be version specific.

and:

Why is a file VW created in the future from a succeeding version of VW

able to be re-addressed through a Worm ~ Hole . Then, as if by magic

collapsing within the precincts of mmoriartys personal computational device.

Only to be summarily rejected by an operational legacy version of Vectorworks

as an " unreadable file format " .

hence,

Is a policy of future-release-formatting most beneficial for the average User ?

Is there the possibility for a fully-functional-locked version, as well, as a

generic slimmed down file format called... none other than... VW-lite

With you there Edward, something REALLY needs to be done about passing files though different versions of VW without it always complaining or warning of the "Origin" of the file.

i know where it came from, "Just Open It!"

Thank you for the Quick Reply. The person I'm relaying this information to doesn't see the option to "Export to 2008". The earliest version he can export to is 2009. Thoughts?

I'm using VW 2011, SP3. You can?t get newer than that. I see the 2008 export option. Maybe the Windows version doesn't have that ability. See the attached screen shot:

Croo377 education licenses can only export back two versions. That is why they don't see an Export as Vectorworoks 2008 file option.

Thank you Mike that confirms that I'm not going crazy. Is there a way in the educational version to export the file back to 2008?

Hey MIke, et al, Can we (meaning owners of the full version) downsave from their file?? If so, would there be any risk (or impropriety) for us to do so??

Just incase you ever need to view a Education document, as I did whilst marking educational work, you can use any of the VW Viewers to open and flick through layers, minor dimension and viewport changes and print.

Also remember that even if you can open an educational document it and any components from within it are tagged as educational upon printing. Even if copied to another document. It's like the plague, stay away!

Just incase that helps anyone in the future.
