krws1
I am updating the attributes of a few classes within my office master class set-up and would like to update existing files. Is there anyway to import a class with the same name as an existing class and have the imported class update/override the existing class attribute? (VW Architect 2010) Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee Tamsin Slatter Posted March 7, 2011 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted March 7, 2011 Yes - create a new class as usual but instead of naming a new class, click the import button instead and the browse to the file you want to import from. Uncheck the box to only show classes in not in the current document. Highlight the classes you want to import and click OK. The attributes of the incoming classes will override classes already setup in your file. Quote Link to comment
krws1
I have tried your directions above, but there is no box to uncheck to only show classes not in the current document. Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee Tamsin Slatter Posted March 11, 2011 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted March 11, 2011 When the classes to import are listed on the Create Class dialog, it's just at the bottom left of the box showing the class list. Quote Link to comment
billtheia
Right, you can't import classes with the same name from another file. Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee Tamsin Slatter Posted March 11, 2011 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted March 11, 2011 If you uncheck that box, you will see all classes from the import file listed. If you choose to import any classes that have the same name as classes in your current file, the attributes of the imported classes will override those in the current file and change any objects which are members of that class. You will be prompted to confirm that you wish to do this. Quote Link to comment
billtheia
Well son of a gun. There IS a checkbox? How long has that been there? I put this on the wish-list when I was using VW2008. Awesome. Quote Link to comment
krws1
I don't have the check box in my version of VW 2010. Not sure why not...? The only one there is to check/uncheck is "Edit Properties After Creation". Quote Link to comment
