beanus
can vectorworks import revit files? Quote Link to comment
mike m oz
No. To my knowledge there isn't any program that can read Revit files. IFC or 3D DWG will be your best options if you can get the other party to export them that way. Quote Link to comment
Jeffrey W Ouellette
Only Revit and Navisworks (read only) can read/write .rvt and .rfa files. If you want the 3D building elements for reference, or wish to rebuild the model from a reference, then request an IFC file. Vectorworks does NOT translate IFC objects (or 3D DWG, for that matter) into native Vectorworks objects, but maintains their geometry and semantic identity (e.g. column or door). 3D DWG is just "dumb" geometry. Bob Holtzmann
If Autodesk ever registers a trademark for the phrase ".dwg" used in file extensions, we'll all be in lots of trouble. I hear the court decision is this coming Thursday, and Sean Flaherty / NVW have taken an active role in this.. It's these kind of legal shenanigans that keep me and Autodesk on separate terms. Bob Holtzmann
Please keep us posted! It looks like the Autodesk Lawyers filed a response to the US Patent and Trademark Office. More legal wrangling before this is all over. One thing the USPTO has recognized is that the "goods", or files with the "dwg" extension are not entirely created by Autodesk, suggesting more of a public domain position. Quote Link to comment
