Window sash position

wvancampen

Question

It would be useful to adjust the position of a window sash relative to the jamb, instead of just centering it. The ability to do this would be useful in making more realistic windows, especially at the working drawing/detail level.

Similar to distinguishing interior and exterior jambs in the "Classes" settings--simply adding under "Jamb and Sash" separate dimensional settings for interior and exterior jambs might do the trick.

One workaround, of course, is to make multiple windows: one containing the frame and sash with a shallower jamb, unchecking "Use Wall Depth" and entering a value in "Plan Wall Offset" to position it correctly in plan. The other(s) being a cased opening, also using the two settings above. Then butt the two windows next to each other (and group or make symbol).

In a way, this is how windows really are made, if you consider the cased opening the equivalent of jamb extensions. But it seems like the process could be streamlined via additional settings in the Object Info Palette.
