bcd
Has anyone had any success using this texture? No matter what I try I cannot get the Brushed Aluminum to look anything like its namesake. I've resorted to importing an image Color and using the metallic settings. This works well enough- but the Brushed Pattern in the Reflectivity>Metallic dialogue does nothing perceptible for me. GWS
Nope, I spent a while trying to get it to look something good but gave up. Quote Link to comment
bcd
Perhaps the Brushed pattern is broken. Edited January 31, 2011 by bcd Quote Link to comment

Vectorworks, Inc Employee Tamsin Slatter Posted January 31, 2011 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted January 31, 2011 Have you tried using Turned instead of Brushed within the Metallic reflectivity shader? An alternative is to use a stretched noise shader within the Color shader - increase the value of the Relative U% to something like 2000 and reduce the Relative V% to something like 10. This will stretch the pattern to a similar effect, but you do get a seam where the texture maps on the surface and I've been unable to get rid of this... Quote Link to comment
bcd
Thanks Tamsin, I ran a Gradient>Noise>Blur in photoshop to create a decent Image to use as the color. Setting the size big enough means, for my elements, I don't have the tiling issue. I'll try your method too. Sounds promising. Perhaps NV can tell us if it's working correctly. I'd expect the scaling option to be available in the OIP if it were. Quote Link to comment
grant_PD
Control over specularity would be good too. I'm finding some of these texture shaders to be lacking in options. Quote Link to comment
