Loci

Locus points are reference points. If you set Snap to Loci in VW Preferences, you can create a vertical and horizontal dashed snap line. Basically, they allow you to place a reference point in the drawing or on an object. They are especially useful when sweeping objects. You can sweep an object around a locus point. FOr example, if you wanted to create a doughnut. You could draw a circle, then place a locus point outside of the circle. Select the two objects then sweep. You should get something that looks like an inner tube.

Loci can also be useful when aligning objects. If you have several objects selected and one of those objects is a locus point, all objects are aligned relative to that locus. If there are multiple loci selected, then the loci are aligned/distributed like any other object in the align/distribute dialog box.

If you have snap to loci checked in the VW prefs, it can be annoying as you will have these black dashed horizontal and vertical lines coming off the locus point(s). They do not print, however visually, they can sometimes get in the way.

You can also create a 3d locus point with the 3d locus tool.

If you create a 2D symbol with 2 loci located horizontally, and insert the symbol in a wall, the wall will be cut between the loci, instead of the full width of the symbol.

If you create a 3D symbol, with at least 3 loci in the front view, and insert the symbol in a wall (in 2D), a 3D hole will be cut in the wall of a shape outlined by the loci. Note: the shape will be convex - no inside angles.
