Bruce Kieffer
I have 20 old MiniCAD files that I'd like to convert. VW 2011 can't do them, I tried VW 12 too and no luck. Is there a simple way to convert them? Quote Link to comment
sig_eigei
You might be able to send them to Nemetschek. Otherwise, a Vectorworks v.8 will do it. Quote Link to comment
Horst M.
I rembered, that read something about that, and found this in the kowledgebase: http://kbase.vectorworks.net/questions/646/File+Formats Quote Link to comment
Bruce Kieffer
We did try VW 2008, and that did not work. How can I tell the version of MiniCAD that was used to make the files? Quote Link to comment
Ray Libby
Open the file in a text editor like Notepad. Somewhere in the beginning of the file the version will be there. Quote Link to comment
Bruce Kieffer
All I get is golly goop. I attached one of the files. I have a feeling it's a MininCAD 6 file. Quote Link to comment
mike m oz
There is a translator that can be downloaded. http://www.nemetschek.net/downloads/fundamentals/archived_downloads.php The catch 22 is that it requires Classic and therefore won't work on the later OSX versions and/or Intel Macs. Therefore you will need to either use an older computer with an older OS or try SheepShaver. http://sheepshaver.cebix.net/ Quote Link to comment
Bruce Kieffer
Sheepshaver looks like more work than the value of these files. I'll contact Nemetschek and see if they can help. Quote Link to comment
Ray Libby
I was able to open your file in Minicad 8. I'll send you a private message with my email and you can send me your files and I'll translate them. Quote Link to comment
Bruce Kieffer
Ray, Thanks for the offer, but they are all converted now. I sent them to Nemetschek and Jim Wilson converted them all for me. I really appreciate that. I hated the idea of losing my old files. I typically batch convert all my old files. These 20 were in Stuffit archives so they never got converted as the years went by. I was looking at my hard drive and seeing I had 800 GB free! So I asked myself why I had Stuffit achieves? I got rid of them all. Quote Link to comment
sig_eigei
Bruce, I had indicated v8, not 2008. Sorry for the confusion. There is a PC version that Nemetchek might help you with. If you have a mac and Parallels or Fusion you can run that to open the files and save them as a version that will open in the latest version. Quote Link to comment
