Guest Demfis Fyssicopulos
Dear all, What is the best way to apply a texture to a solid that has been created from a combination of polygons, lines, and extrusions?. Ideally, the texture would apply only to one side of the object. I am trying to mimic a projected image onto a stage. df Quote Link to comment
propstuff
With the exception of some special objects ( eg Walls, extrudes)..... you cant texture just one face of an object; the texture is applied to all of the object. Use the Extract tool from the 3D pallette to extract just the face you want, shift it a tiny amount off the face of the object and texture that. Quote Link to comment
Guest Demfis Fyssicopulos
Thank you Nicholas, Maybe you can shine some more light on this. I made the object out of extrusions of lines, curves, nurbs, etc. It is a very irregular shape (it looks like a monogram - symbol). The first thing I am running into is that doesn't have a "surface" (no floor). after extruding I am only getting the sides (facias). It looks fine on wireframe, but when render since it doesn't have a floor, it looks like a cookie cutter. How can I give it a "surface/floor" to this shape?. Many thanks. df Quote Link to comment
propstuff
If you have an extrusion which has come out hollow, it's because the shape you extruded is not a single closed poly. You must compose or otherwise join all the individual bits into a single shape and make sure it's closed. (no open segments) Quote Link to comment
Guest Demfis Fyssicopulos
Hi Nicholas, Yes all segments are closed and composed. Still no "top" surface.... Ideas? df Quote Link to comment
bcd
An image of your object would be helpful, as would your version /machine specs which you can add to your signature. Quote Link to comment
propstuff
are you extruding *1 single* entirely closed surface? Quote Link to comment
Guest Wes Gardner
Don't forget, not only must the poly be "closed", it must also have a FILL otherwise it will appear sort of in wireframe... Quote Link to comment
