Ron Kenyeri
Just upgraded to 11.0.1, and it is worth the money. BUT, the dashed hidden line, while much better that before, is really slow, compared to 10.5. Given that I have a TiPB 400mhz... I realize that I need to upgrade my hardware. What I am asking is how critical is the graphics card to VW, or would my money be better spent on more memory? Thanks, Ron Kenyeri Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee Andrew Bell@NV Posted January 6, 2005 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted January 6, 2005 The graphics card is only relevant to VectorWorks for OpenGL. Memory and (especially) a faster CPU are what's important for hidden line rendering. Quote Link to comment
Ron Kenyeri
Andrew, I do machine/tool design. On average I have 10 plates 20 or so screws and lots of openings in my 3-D models. What would consider a solid midranged G4 cpu? 800 mhz or more? Thanks, Ron Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee Andrew Bell@NV Posted January 6, 2005 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted January 6, 2005 If you're going for a desktop Apple machine, I'd personally recommend a G5, especially if you're doing 3-D modelling. Look for NNA CTO Sean Flaherty's interview in Architosh: http://www.architosh.com/features/2004/g5-interview/2004-interv-g5nem-1.phtml Quote Link to comment
Ron Kenyeri
I would love a desktop. But I spend 90% of my time at on location so I am chained, if you will, to a laptop. I was planning to wait for a dual core G4 or a G5, but I don't know if I can waite that long. Ron Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee Andrew Bell@NV Posted January 7, 2005 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted January 7, 2005 Macworld opens January 11th, so you might want to wait to see what that brings. Or perhaps you could get a gym membership to build those arm muscles, and lug a G5 iMac around? Quote Link to comment
wv_vectorworker
renderworks uses the cpu, if you are doing machine parts open gl is probably adequate . . . the latest iBook has an ATI 9200 with 32MB ram. Quote Link to comment
