chris richards
HI We have a strange issue on one pc for one user. 0 Pat Stanford
Reinstalling VW does not change what is in the User folder. If it is a corrupted workspace, that is stored in the user folder. The location of the custom workspaces is something like the following. There should be a Workspaces folder there. Move whatever is there to your desktop and try restarting VW. If this works then copy the custom workspaces from another machine. Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\Nemetschek\Vectorworks\2011\ ● Windows Vista: C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Nemetschek\Vectorworks\2011 ● Macintosh: /Users//Library/Application Support/Vectorworks/2011/ Quote Link to comment
0 chris richards
Sorry for the slow response. I've looked in the application data folder vectorworks folder. There was no standard.vww file in the workspaces folder. I've copied one across and waiting to see if this works. Quote Link to comment
0 Ray Libby
I'm not sure what you mean, Pat is saying to remove everything from the workspace folder. Quote Link to comment
0 chris richards
Sorry misunderstood. There was nothing in the workspace folder anyway. I've tested with the standard.vww and it didn't work. I did manage to get it sorted for a time but i did have to delete the profile from the pc and the server and remove vectorworks from the PC. Now it's gone wrong again. Anyone else who launchs vectorworks either through run as or logged onto the pc it works. I know it must be profile related. Quote Link to comment
0 Ray Libby
Then you could have removed the workspaces from the application folder. Vectorworks looks to the user folder for workspaces first, then to the application folder. Quote Link to comment
0 chris richards
In the c:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Nemetschek\Vectorworks\2009\Workspaces there was no workspace file. I copied one from someone elses tested and it didn't work. In the c:\Program Files\Vectorworks2009\Workspaces I replaced the file that was in there with the same one I copied from the user that works. This has been tested and it does not work. I might not be explaining this correctly as i don't use vectorworks. Double click on vectorworks it loads all the plugins you then see the main application you might get a chance to click on file before it crashes. If I look in C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Nemetschek\Vectorworks\2009 we have several VWCrashDump.dmp files. Quote Link to comment
0 Ray Libby
Move all of the workspaces out of the workspace folder, then launch VW. Quote Link to comment
0 chris richards
I've deleted the workspaces from the profile and the program files area. This did produce an error about no workspaces available. I did try renaming the workspace but that made no difference. Quote Link to comment
0 Ray Libby
Try putting one of the workspaces back in the workspace folder. Choose one that you have never used. Quote Link to comment
0 Ray Libby
Please create a signature with your version of Vectorworks including update and computer specs including OS. Click on the my stuff link at the top, edit profile. Quote Link to comment
0 Guest jkelly
Just as a point of clarification, when you copied over the workspaces from another machine that you knew worked, did you copy it from the Program Files one or the Application Data one? The Program Files data should *never* be modified, as it exists to restore defaults in a case like this. Quote Link to comment
0 chris richards
Tried putting a new workspace in from another profile and got the same problem. Mainly been using the worksapce from the profile of someone who does not have the issue. I think i've tried now ever permutation for this workspace file I have had another suggestion to look at quicktime. This will be next week now. Quote Link to comment
0 Guest jkelly
I think you are missing what I'm saying, do not use the workspaces from other profiles, use clean workspaces from an installed version of Vectorworks, from Program Files. Quote Link to comment
0 chris richards
Sorry didn't make it clear, i kept mentioning profile as that was the original place I tried. I have copied the workspace file from another pc's program files directory but this did not work. What else does vectorworks use in the profile? I've copied someone else's whole vectorworks folder from their profile to the person who has the problem. I still get the same issue. Quote Link to comment
0 Ray Libby
Creating a signature would really help us to help... Quote Link to comment
0 Guest jkelly
Can you also try moving the entire user folder out of the way? Vectorworks will recreate it when restarted, presumably with new, good files. Quote Link to comment
0 chris richards
Thought I had done that. Think it should be ok now. I'll try moving the folder out of the way. Quote Link to comment
0 chris richards
I've had to resort to swapping round base units with someone else. This has worked for a couple of days now. Just hope I don't get the issue again. Quote Link to comment
