MattG
I am helping out a coworker with a problem he is having in vectoworks 2008 that I have never seen before. We have a file in vectorworks we go to export dwg and set the options we want and then we get a strange location that it defaults to save to and when we choose the correct location it gives us a error. I am attaching screenshots of both and not sure what is going on here. Then we go back to the screen where we choose location and we are now unable to choose the location. Anyone else ever experience similar? I am not mac savy and this is occuring on a mac, so pardon my ignorance on some of this. Thanks, Matt Quote Link to comment
CipesDesign
Matt, this is generic Mac Alert that is telling you *exactly* what is says: there is already a file with the exact same name in that location. It is asking whether you wish to replace the existing file with the file you are exporting/saving. You have two options: 1) click replace and the new file (the one currently being exported) will overwrite the existing file, or 2) change the name of the file being exported (as simple as placing the numeral "2" after the chosen name. HTS's. Quote Link to comment
Pat Stanford
This has been seen by others in VW2008 before, but I don't know if there is a true solution. The following two threads talk about the issue: http://techboard.vectorworks.net/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=118589&Searchpage=1&Main=25029&Words=%2BDWG+%2BExport+%2Bfolder&Search=true#Post118589 http://techboard.vectorworks.net/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=112640&Searchpage=2&Main=23616&Words=%2BDWG+%2BExport+%2Bfolder&Search=true#Post112640 It sounds like there is a corrupt preference file somewhere. The first thing I would try would be to create a new User on the machine and see if you can export correctly from there. If that works, then I would trash the VW preferences and settings file and let VW recreate them. The last option would be to delete and reinstall VW, including the stuff in the Users ~/Library/Application Support/Vectorworks folder and the VW preferences. Quote Link to comment
MattG
Our problem is that I have tried to choose a different location say desktop and change the name. There is no other folder or file with the same name on the desktop but it still says there is a ocnfilct. Then I cahnge the name to whatever and it still says there is a conflict. I finally choose to just replace and it does not create a folder or file with the name in that location. I try to search for the file name I just created and find it but for some reason the mac seems to think that a .dwg is a calendar item. It is really strange to me as a pc guy. Quote Link to comment
CipesDesign
Hi Matt, go to the second link posted by Pat, above. This sounds like a possible solution... Sorry I didn't quite understand your issue before... Quote Link to comment
Pat Stanford
I seem to remember that at least one person having this problem was having the DWG file created inside the VW application (which on a Mac is really just a special type of folder). That is why I suggest trying under a new user. If there is corruption in the current user account it should be bypassed and you will get the correct export. If a new user does not solve the problem, it is likely in the VW app or preferences. Quote Link to comment
MattG
Cool thanks, will keep you posted giving it a try. Thanks for the help. Quote Link to comment
willofmaine
I've had problems exporting .dwg files from VW 2008, though not necessarily the symptoms you've experienced. In my case I found that I had to keep the file name for the exported file, at least while exporting, very short (probably shorter than yours) in order to get it to actually export. So, something you might try if all else fails... Quote Link to comment
