Jershaun Posted July 7, 2010 Share Posted July 7, 2010 Google Earth Terrain import would be nice. I know this is possible because AutoCAD Civil 3D and Cinema 4D can do it. Quote Link to comment
0 monkey Posted July 7, 2010 Share Posted July 7, 2010 this would be excellent, although i would like to import quite large areas and this doesnt seem to be an option with sketchups current google terrain import, i think its google earth that inhibits this Quote Link to comment
0 holsteinson Posted July 12, 2010 Share Posted July 12, 2010 Every "normal" CAD software already has "view in Google Earth" exporting button, including ARCHICAD! Why doesnt VW can not implement this ? Quote Link to comment
0 Jonathan Pickup Posted July 12, 2010 Share Posted July 12, 2010 File > Export > Export KML... exports to google earth. is this what you are looking for? Quote Link to comment
0 holsteinson Posted July 14, 2010 Share Posted July 14, 2010 Nope I am looking for a VIEW IN GOOGLE EARTH button just like AutoCAD, GPSTrackMaker, ArchiCAD, etc Quote Link to comment
0 islandmon Posted July 16, 2010 Share Posted July 16, 2010 Basically, what is required is a port socket to allow URL access to Google Maps / Earth, GIS, et al. Recently I set-up a Filemaker10 property database that not only ports to Google Maps, but to all the county GIS, Tax maps, Tax documents, and my server files. Each Property has the location map via Google, the Aerial Image & Parcel Boundary via GIS , the Tax Parcels Zoning map, Tax Info, and links to CAD files. All the info & images can be imported into VW via scripts. Not ideal but doable. See example: Quote Link to comment
0 Assembly Posted July 20, 2010 Share Posted July 20, 2010 Maybe you get what you pay for. VW cost less and it has less. Quote Link to comment
0 starling75 Posted July 22, 2010 Share Posted July 22, 2010 (edited) Maybe you get what you pay for. VW cost less and it has less. ProgeCad costs fraction of VW price and it has this function .. But the kml export mentioned above by Jonathan can do the same. It is necessary enter latitude and longitude of building site before exporting and then open the file in GE .. 0 holsteinson Posted July 23, 2010 Share Posted July 23, 2010 GPSTrack Maker does it via the mentioned VIEW IN GOOGLE EARTH button and it only cost US$100 so lets not get deviated with price or cost to implement such a simple export command to facilitate the life of the users! Quote Link to comment
0 holsteinson Posted August 11, 2010 Share Posted August 11, 2010 Archicad has this GE Button so obviously Nemetshek has the programming already and they own both software so what is the problem in implementing this in simple update? Quote Link to comment
0 Jershaun Posted August 13, 2010 Author Share Posted August 13, 2010 Although it would be good to export to Google Earth, I want to go back to my original wish just so that there's no confusion. I would like to Import terrain from Google Earth to use in my vw documents. The 3D contour data is already in Google Earth-it just needs to be brought into vw. But Import and Export would be the best. Thanks, Quote Link to comment
0 VincentCuclair Posted August 13, 2010 Share Posted August 13, 2010 (edited) Shaun, perhaps there is a workaround )....for now until NNA implements this in VW ....... It is possible to import terrain in Sketchup from Google Earth: .....don't know but perhaps you can import the Sketchup terrain into VW...... Edited August 13, 2010 by Vincent C Quote Link to comment
0 islandmon Posted August 14, 2010 Share Posted August 14, 2010 Check out this image of the Filemaker WebViewer Set-up GUI. Here's the code to access Goggle earth Maps from within the database using the Management:: */Contact ... addressing. "http://local.google.com/maps?" & "q=" & /*Address=*/ Contact Management::HWPOA_Street & "," & /*City=*/ Contact Management::HWPOA_City & "," & /*State=*/ Contact Management::HWPOA_State & "," & /*Zip Code=*/ Contact Management::HWPOA_ZIP & "," & /*Country=*/ "" Quote Link to comment
0 JohnS Posted October 7, 2010 Share Posted October 7, 2010 So there is no way to import Google earth topo with the ariel photo? Most CAD software has this ability. Quote Link to comment
0 JohnS Posted October 7, 2010 Share Posted October 7, 2010 You can import through Sketchup but the photographic information is lost. John Quote Link to comment
