Bruce Kieffer
What is the setting to change the smoothness of rendered curves? I thought it was the curve detail setting in geometry of the custom Renderworks options, but that doesn't seem to change anything. I tried increasing the 3D resolution setting to very high in my prefs, but that too didn't change anything. Quote Link to comment
GWS
What rendering are you using? There is a '2D conversion' in the preferences under EDIT, I think. If you're using Open GL anything under 'High' or 'Very High' can lead to faceted edges. Also 'Anti-Aliasing' can make a big difference Otherwise FQRW is usually good as long as the 3D resolution is set to high Quote Link to comment
Bruce Kieffer
I found the setting, but it doesn't seem to change anything with the shape of my curved drawer front (file attached). I want it look smoother on the hand cut out edges. Quote Link to comment
GWS
I rendered it in OpenGL (very high, + anti aliasing) and this is what I got. It looks pretty smooth. Quote Link to comment
Bruce Kieffer
Here's a close up of mine. Please look at yours on your screen and see if the rear edge is as chunky. Quote Link to comment
GWS
Here's 2 different versions and surprisingly the FQRW does look more faceted. Unfortunately I don't know why, perhaps one of the VW gurus will have an answer. Quote Link to comment
go2greece
your cut out piece is a polyline. try to convert in a polygon or us more vertex. http://img641.imageshack.us/img641/4369/picture7dn.png Quote Link to comment
Bruce Kieffer
go2greece, You are a genius! That is the solution. I converted the cutout shape from a polyline to a polygon, and now it's beautiful. Can you anticipate my next question... Why does a polygon cutout makes the the drawer front so much smoother than a polyline cutout? Quote Link to comment
go2greece
thanks bruce, the command > create polygone creates more segments did you try to do it with nurbs? i think that would do it much better Quote Link to comment
Bruce Kieffer
Will give it a try. Got garden work to do today! Quote Link to comment
Bruce Kieffer
I tested with NURBS. The only way that works is to create the solid, then convert it to NURBS. I took the drawer front with the polyline created cutout, duplicated that, converted it to a NURBS, and then rendered in Open GL. Its rendered quality falls between the chunky polyline created version, and the super smooth polygon created version. Quote Link to comment
jimmymise
In your drop down rendering menu, select Open GL options. Here you can select the amount of detail (and smoothness) in Open GL. You will also find the options for other rendering modes. Jim Quote Link to comment
Jonathan Pickup
Using very high detail smoothes out the model Quote Link to comment
