wjpeel
I have been using vectorworks for a couple of years, mainly using it for 2D plans & elevations. I am currently delving into 3D modeling and I am attempting to create a site model. I've got a site survey, and have turned the contours (poly lines) into 3D poly lines with the correct contour distance. However, the drawing is looking very 'flat' and I would like to emphasize the contour heights a great deal more. Does anyone have any bright ideas to do this?! If anyone has any tips for using the site modeling tool too, please let me know! Quote Link to comment
CipesDesign
Have you selected the 3d poly's and run the "Create Site Model" command? Quote Link to comment
wjpeel
Yes I have, and played around with the settings. But it just does look very flat still, whereas the site itself is very steep! Quote Link to comment
CipesDesign
Once you create your Site Model, go to a 3d view (use the flyover tool) and see what it looks like. If you want you can try to attach a file or screen shot for us to look at... Hard for me to give specific advice without seeing what you are seeing. Quote Link to comment
wjpeel
I have attached an image of my model. But having viewed the model in elevation, I can see the contours are flat, despite each one having a Z value. Have I missed a step? Quote Link to comment
Rossford
Just a wild guess (and don't ask me how I thought of this) but is it possible your units were set to inches instead of feet? that would flatten out a model quickly, by about 12X. Quote Link to comment
CipesDesign
Rossford could be correct. I would go back and select each of the 3d poly's and check it's "Z" value in the OIP. Make sure they are each at the desired height in relation to each other. If they need adjustment it is easy. First, delete the Site Model, then, simply change their value(s) in the OIP. When the values are correct, select all the 3d poly's and run the Create Site Model command again. Hope that helps! Quote Link to comment
wjpeel
I can't believe I missed something as simple as that! Yes, the units were in millimeters and not metres. Thank you both for your help - very much appreciated. Quote Link to comment
ghdfans2010
Have you selected the 3d poly's and run the "Create Site Model" command? I think that's a good reply! Quote Link to comment
