andyt
Is there any solution for importing laserscan-generated point clouds into VW such as there is for autocad? I put this on the wish list back in 2008 and was hoping that there might be a solution by now. Thanks for your help. Quote Link to comment

Diamond
Backing up Gester (and the link), I think most of these are based on the proprietary system/equipment that is used by the surveyor. For the projects I have had this available, the system was by Leica, and had no Mac (or Vw) plugins to be able to view the survey. Leica has a PC app to view the overall point cloud accompanied by a panorama photo of each survey scan location, which is helpful (if you are PC based). The surveyor had a draftsperson modelling the existing geometry from the generated point cloud on AutoCAD, I believe via a Leica plugin. The only reason this was feasible in our case, was due to the remoteness of the site, the terrain angle being at 52?, and negating the surveyor having to revisit the site. Back to the point could file, maybe if NV partnered with Leica, we might be able to get around this in Vw. Is there an open standard for this kind of data? Quote Link to comment
Benson Shaw
Totally want direct creation of surface from points. Imported or otherwise. The iSense looks promising. Developed for iOS. But it's still in preorder: http://cubify.com/en/Products/iSense -B Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted August 5, 2014 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted August 5, 2014 I do know that point cloud import as well as a few types of 3D scanning have caught high level interest here and some research is being done, but no official word yet. Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted November 20, 2014 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted November 20, 2014 It would be a completely new feature if integrated, so I would not be able to give details ahead of time, apologies. Quote Link to comment
gester
but you'll implement one in the 2016 version, right? rob Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted November 20, 2014 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted November 20, 2014 Not a clue, but even if we do, I wouldn't be able to confirm it until then! Quote Link to comment
gester
so when will we know for sure? Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted November 20, 2014 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted November 20, 2014 Once it is announced officially which normally happens within a month of release of a new set of features. This policy has not yet been changed from every prior year. Quote Link to comment
