BigDan
Hey guys, I have some custom spandex pieces I need to put into a set. I've already got the fabric down (I can make square pieces of spandex no problem), but i'm wondering how can I make custom shapes so when I do a camera views people can see them? Say I want to do a triangle piece of spandex or a 5-point piece of spandex? I've been making the squares by doing an extrude and applying my spandex fabric to it, but no clue how i make a custom shape like i'm talking about. Thanks for the help! Quote Link to comment
michaelk
I always make them using 3D polygons. Switch to a front view. Draw the shape - usually using the polyline tool. Convert>Convert to 3D Polys hth michaelk Quote Link to comment
David Ormsby
Dan I also use the polyline tool, but I usually extrude the shape to something very thin. That way, double clicking on the resulting object will take me back to the original 2D polyline, which is useful for tweaking. Quote Link to comment
michaelk
You can also edit 3D polys with the 3D reshape tool - just double click and you can edit the shape in 3 dimensions. I also like to use 3D polys because when you get a lot of them they seem to render faster w/ textures. Disclaimer: I don't know for a fact that 3D polys render textures faster than extrudes. That was my experience back in VW10 and I've been doing it the same way ever since. Quote Link to comment
Christien
you could also use Nurbs curves, especially if you have "pick points" on the spandex, then pull it like taffy. Quote Link to comment
