JSiegel
Hi all, Just wondering if users are using the base/wall cabinet tools and or rail/baluster tools? As using extrusions & offsets seems to get the job done as well. Advantages/disadvantages of either method encountered? TY J Quote Link to comment
Bob Holtzmann
The base and wall cabinet objects have pulls for the doors and drawers. Whereas extrudes have no pulls, doors or drawers. I agree about the railings, though. Extrude along path using a NURBS curve. Quote Link to comment
propstuff
The Base Cabinet units have lots of settings but you may still not get what you want. EG If you make a unit 3m long you still only have the choice of 1 or 2 doors. On the other hand they are Hybrids and have a 2D repesentation. Cabinets are usually just "boxes" and I find it easier to just use the 3D tools to model what I want out of extrudes etc and add the handles etc I want, where I want them, then make that into a Hybrid Symbol. This is quicker usually than setting all the settings to get the desired configuration. YMMV N. Quote Link to comment
JSiegel
Bob-H & Propstuff, yours was exactly the type of feedback I was looking for. I have worked with the cabinets & rail features some but think I will model them instead. TY Jeremy Quote Link to comment
mcleodb
Bob, I am having trouble getting the extrusions to behave. There seems to be no rational for how VW chooses which point on the profile to use along the path and how to orient. Any tips? Quote Link to comment
Guest Wes Gardner
When using Extrude Along Path to create moldings, etc. I typically have the best results in positioning the extrude by editing the object PROFILE and positioning my object in the top left quadrant (defined by dotted line "crosshairs"). To edit just double click the object, then choose to edit the PROFILE, then just move your object to that quadrant. Don't forget to use the "Length" function in your worksheets if you want to quantify your molding, etc. Edited July 29, 2010 by Wes Gardner Quote Link to comment
J Lucas
The handrail tool is very limited but it works great for creating baluster panels to place between posts. The top rail can be an extrude or a framing member. Quote Link to comment
