How do I use a .PAT to create a hatch?

Recommended Posts

I've downloaded a host of .pat (pattern) files to use as stone hatch patterns, but don't know how to get them into a vectoworks drawing as a hatch. Anybody know?

It's not possible to import a .pat file into Vectorworks. You need to apply the hatch to an object in AutoCad, then import the file into Vectorworks.

Thanks. I don't have autocad so I guess I'm out of luck. Any suggestionos to obtain stone veneer hatches? Elsewhere on the site it was suggested to get hatches from El Dorado stone but what I got are .pat files :(

Try to download for example ProgeCAD smart, import your .pat files, apply to some geometry, save file as dwg and import it into VW ...

ProgeCAD smart ...

Great stuff. Helpful. Thank you. Hurray for the community board as a resource! As a new member I'm thrilled with the responses to recent posts. I will try to give back when I can. I've been scratching my head alone on some of this stuff for years!

Try Draftsight by Dassault, it's free and available for both PC and Mac.

Thanks Vincent. Ugh, these programs are an abomination. Any idea how to import .pat file into Draftsight? Can't find the app support folder for Draftsight.

Right click the Draftsight app icon in Finder(for Mac)

> show package contents (or something along those lines, mine is in swedish :) )

> /Applications/DraftSight.app/Contents/Default Files/Support

> copy paste

I haven't tried this so I hope it's correct

Well, the easiest is just to post the d..n .pat file here and I'll import it into ADT and post the dwg file for back for you ;)

You the man! But there may be an even easier way. You don't have a nice oriented strand board hatch do you?

The one I wanted to try was this one (click on "download this tip"):
