Overriding Dimensions

I've had no luck searching for how to accomplish this. I have a drawing from another firm of the existing conditions of a bldg. There are some dimensions that have been fudged a bit. I need my drawing to match their measurements, and I cannot figure out how to override a dimension.

I've seen people post about their overridden dimensions, but no explanation of how they've accomplished it.

Select the dimension

In the OI palette there's a check box - Show Dim Value.

Just uncheck it and enter your custom text as a Leader

i think you can just either ungroup, or apple 'k' / ctrl 'k' the dimension and the you can edit the text thats already there.
