VW 9.0.1 crash...crash...crash

Recommended Posts

I have VW 9 loaded on an

Athalon 1.2g

256meg ram

windows 98se

nvidia geForce 2mx video card

there is no repeatability, it just crashes whenever it feels like it.

The bluescreen error code is "fatal exception OE 0028:c0059c8d"

I have unplugged, turned down, downloaded, and called microsoft, AMD, and VW tech support(multiple times, getting no response)

I really like the VW9 version, but I have to run 8.5.2 to get anything done.

(1)Anybody got any suggestions?

(2) when is the beta 9.5 due? and put me on the list.

Eric,

I am very sorry to hear that you have been unable to reach us. If you would like please give me a call directly and we can try to troubleshoot your problem. There are a number of factor that can cause VectorWorks 9.0.1 to crash on Windows 98.

Here is a brief list.

-Running in 256 color mode,

-Incompatible graphics drivers (try turning down the graphics slider in the system control panel)

-A default print driver which reports bad page information to VectorWorks

-Corrupted preferences in the registry

-Some anti-virus products when set to high settings.

-Other memory resident programs which run at startup or other programs running at the same time as VectorWorks (Use the msconfig tool to disable these)

-Unstable motherboard drivers. If you are using a VIA chipset board, try using a recent version of the VIA 4in1 drivers.

Can your crashes be repeated in safe mode? Do they happen with specific documents or tools?

As for 9.5, I have no official release date, nor can I post other information regarding it's availability at this time.

If you would like, I can be reached at mattg@nemetschek.net or via the Tech Support number.

Eric,

This is a situation that is either unique or very rare. You may actually have a corrupted Operating System installation. This does happen and can frequently cause the Blue Screen of death (BSOD). It could just be apparent when VectorWorks is running as it is accessing something that is corrupted and other programs are not.

Win98 does give the 'BSOD' more than the NT based Windows systems but not nearly as bad as Win95. I have had this situation happen to me in the past and by defragging the hard drive it helped and by reinstalling Win 98 it helped... but there have been times when nothing but reformatting and reinstalling worked. frown.gif

Please contact us at Technical Support again. I do not know why you were not responded to if you were a Registered User with Nemetschek North America. If you purchased outside of the United States we may have forwarded e-mails to your distributor with some suggestions.
