There are many ways to do this. 1) Use the polyline tool (in any of its different modes) to create a closed shape. You can later Convert to Polygon if desired. 2) Start out with any number of basic shapes which intersect/overlap then use the Add Surface or Clip Surface commands to combine the shapes into one. 3) Start with any number of lines, arcs, curves, etc which are all EXACTLY touching at their respective ends, and create a closed shape, then select them all and use the Compose command. NOTE: in order to be filled or hatched a shapes must be "Solid" as opposed to "Hollow" (ie: it cannot have "None" as its fill in the Attribute palette). Hope that helps.
