Thom
I will be building a new computer based on either a P3 / P4 or AMD processor in the near future. What are the recommended video cards that seem to work well. thks Quote Link to comment
wdickert
I use an Athlon system with a 3D Labs Oxygen VX1 graphics card with no problems. I use both AutoCad and VW9 and have gone through several cards over the years. My experience has been that if you are doing serious CAD work, stick with a proffesional workstation graphics card. The VX1 is the least expensive in this group. Quote Link to comment
jnr
stay away from win 98. v9 runs too slow. win2k runs much cleaner and faster. I once had a conversation with the company since I was having so much trouble with my oxygen vx-1 card with win 98. They said to stick with the major card players as those were the ones they had the most experience with (ati, nvidia, etc). also I read somewhere on this message board that vectorworks is not written to take advantage of the advances in the capabilities of recent graphics card. They are behind wrt taking advantage on professional CAD graphics cards. Quote Link to comment
Guest
Agreed, Windows NT platforms are more stable when running VectorWorks, however that has nothing to do with VectorWorks but the inherent nature of those Windows Platforms. As for the video cards, there are many that work well with VectorWorks. Generally speaking, when there is a problem with a card on one person's machine and not another person's, then there is a deeper issue than a single product. Our primary video specialist here at Nemetschek has used many cards without issue, including those but not limited to those from Oxygen Labs, ATI and nVidia Chipset designs. Nemetschek, North America does not recommend or dissuade any hardware beyond the minimum settings on the box. quote: Originally posted by jnr: stay away from win 98. v9 runs too slow. win2k runs much cleaner and faster.
