michaelk
Currently the Align / Distribute Objects command will align or distribute objects by their left sides, right sides, centers, or space between objects. I'd like to also have the option w/ symbols to align / distribute by insertion point. michaelk Quote Link to comment
0 Jonathan Pickup
that would be a nice option. i tried to use the 2D locus, but that doesn't work. The 2D Locus trick uses the 2D Locus to use as an alignment point Quote Link to comment
0 michaelk
Jonathan I was hoping there was a 2D locus point solution, too. But it's eluding me. If symbols don't have a centered insertion point, or when symbols have text linked to data, the data can throw off the edges and center of the bounding box in a way that is different for each instance of the symbol. 0 AndiACD
I also have issues with this, but in 3D Symbols, for different reasons, but to a similar end.I place 3D locus for alignment but if they are any deeper than one stage in the developement of the Symbol, the Locus is not visible. I always feel I must be missing something, but so far haven't worked it out. ?? If a dialogue like that used in the "Subtract Solids" process which alows you to cycle through the objects that make up the Symbol you're working on, then choose the object who's centre you wish to use as the insertion point. Like a Locus. Quote Link to comment

0 Guest Frank Brault
Actually, if you have Spotlight, the Align and Distribute Items tool uses the insertion point of symbols and PIOs in the selection set. hth, Quote Link to comment
0 Jonathan Pickup
So, if you have Spotlight or Designer, you can use this command. Quote Link to comment
