Z-HEIGHT WALLS

Hi All,

I have set up my drawing with:

First Floor: Z=0, delta-Z=9'-0"

Second Floor: Z= 10'-0", delta-Z=9'-0"

Floor slabs 1'-0" in between

...and am getting the following in the OIP, bottom Z= -10'-0", delta-Z=20'-0" (see screen shot).

I don't have time to individually select each wall & correct them (or maybe I do)

1) Is there a custom selection option that will allow me to correct the Z & delta-Z, to match my drawing setup?

2) Why is this happening?

Hi Jeremy, there are a couple ways that this can occur, nearly always it's user error (otherwise known as "oops"). I am gathering from your note and screenshot that it's the walls on the second floor that are giving you trouble? If so, you could use the Custom Selection command to select all the walls on that layer, then reset them all at once by typing the appropriate values into the OIP. Let us know how it works.

Peter, See attached screen shot. I am not sure what my user error is. In the prior post/screen shot the delta-Z defaulted to 20'0" which I had never set? Thanks, Jeremy

So with all the walls selected, as per your second attachment, why not just type in (bottom) Z=0 in the OIP?? Won't that fix the problem??

Peter, You are correct that fixes the problem. Not sure why VW would move the Z coordinate? Additionally, if in my Design Layer set up I set Z=10'-0" delta-Z=9'-0", then why doesn't the Z in the OIP also show as 10'-0"? TY Jeremy

The values shown in the OIP are relative to the Layer Z.

That way if you insert windows with a sill height of 3'8" you can set them at that height on every layer and not have to remember the second floor should be at 13'8 and the third at 22' 6 12", etc.

Pat, thanks, I figured as much. However, when I look at the OIP my first instinct is to question why my 2nd floor is set to Z=10'-0". TY Jeremy

This is just "how it works" in VW's. You set each design layer to have a "base Z" (which corresponds to the "global" Z for that document) and a "Z Height" which is sort of internal to that particular layer.

I've had this problem too. My tech support tells me it is a known bug.
