mar schrammeyer
I put a dimension on a wall in a VP, I want to change the dimension from one side of the wall to the other side, the wall moves because of a constraint so I have to go into my design-layer to remove the constraint. Question, how do I avoid that while maintaining associative dimensioning? Thanks anyone Quote Link to comment
Jonathan Pickup
how are you trying to move the dimension. DO NOT try to nudge it. Quote Link to comment
mar schrammeyer
I grab the witness and move it to the other side of wall, I want to move it 90mm but since associative dimensioning is switched on the wall moves instead or I get the message this editing operation can not be performed because of constraints etc. I like associative dimensioning but when I grab a witness it should override the constraint. Bruce Kieffer
This is a change in 2010. I like the fact that no matter what, unless you manually remove the constraint, a dimension stays associative. There are advantages to being able to tweak the dimension of an object by changing the dimension text. One work around is to create your dimension non-associated from the start. Click the dimension ends in space, not snapped to any object points. Then drag the dimension witness line end points so they do snap to the object. That dimension is not associative. Pat Stanford
Or you can turn off the associative dimensions in the Document Preferences. Quote Link to comment
wavlas
Can you unassociate a particular dimension later? Quote Link to comment
