Top/Plan vs. Top

Recommended Posts

VW keeps switching the view from Top/Plan view to Top view on me and its starting to get frustrating having to constantly change it back. The only command i know to toggle Top view is the 5 on the number pad, but are there other actions that will cause it to switch in to Top view that i'm unaware of or is this a bug?

Until today I thought that clicking or using the keyboard short cuts for any of the 3D tools would change the view to a 3D view.

Not so.

Any of these will put you in a 3D view:

Basic Tool Palette:

3D Selection.....................Shift X

3D Tool Palette:

Flyover........................... Shift C

Set Working Plane............Shift 1

3D Reshape.....................Shift 2

3D Locus.........................Shift 0

3D Polygon

Nurbs Curve.....................Shift 7

Nurbs Circle.....................Shift Option 7

Nurbs Arc

Extruded Rectangle..........Shift 4

Extruded Polygon.............Shift Option 4

Cylinder

Sphere...............................Shift 3

Hemisphere.......................Shift Option 3

Cone

Protrusion/Cutout.............Shift R

These will not:

3D symbol insertion.........Shift Option 0

Filet Edge.........................Shift F

Chamfer Edge...................Shift J

Shell Solid.........................Shift G

Loft...................................Shift K

Extract..............................Shift L

Create Contours................Shift H

Project..............................Shift ;

Analysis............................Shift A

And, until today, I thought you could use tab stops in this forum.

Shift X is the keyboard shortcut for the 3D selection tool. It will also put you in to Top view (if you are currently in Top/Plan)

This is probably what i'm doing and not realizing it...still getting use to these slick iMac keyboards, but they are nicer than the old chunky key keyboards.

Good to know that using a 3D tool puts you into Top view as well.

Thanks.
