MicroStation files into VW2008

Hi,

I have tried to find the answer to my query on these boards but every attempt to import a fairly modest sized Microstation (v8i) file into Vectorworks 2008 has failed for one reason or another.

I have saved the file as both dwg and dxf but importing either of these comes up with the error:

OpenDWG Library Error 3:

The file could not be opened. Make sure it is not already open in another application.

I've closed down MS, copied the file to other locations and even shut down the machine (Windows XP platform) but this error still appears.

So, I opened the file in Illustrator and then exported as dwg, but now when VW imports it, it onlt allows me to import as a symbol. As I want to incorporate this MS drawing into my VW one, this is no good. As far as I can tell. Unless there's a way of expanding the symbol into its separate parts.

Welcome to the Community Board.

Vectorworks will not import a native Microstation file. You would need to export to .dwg from Microstation.

Symbols can be converted to group, Menu bar>Modify>Convert>Convert to Group. You can then ungroup and you will have individual objects.

Make sure you have installed service pack 3 onto Vectorworks 2008.

I recall dwg issues with one or more early versions.
