importing STP files?

I can't import stp files with vw2008, does anyone know if I vw2010 can inport stp files?

They are becoming the defaco standard in machine design, and I am finding it harder and harder to get people to translate to .sat or .iges

while I wait for vw2010 does any one know a free app for the mac? I really need to get some work done.....

VW2010 does not yet support STP files.

I don't know of a free (or even a good) translator.

Alas .. mighty Blender translates numerous formats including > STL & SLP ... but not STP

I strongly support the need for STEP, it is now the de-facto standard for solids. NNA, please get with it!

Well the irony is that VW DOES support STEP Files (ISO 10303), but only through VW Architect IFC export/import functionality, currently.

IFC is a combination of STEP (ISO 10303) geometry with building industry specific semantic data.

However, this may be a good Wishlist Forum item...

So could I read in a mechanical component in xxxx.stp using this VW Architect IFC?

I would hate to spend the extra money, but I am loosing days have thing translated....

I don't believe so. As I said IFC is a extended STEP format. Send me a .STP and I can experiment.
