Gytis
Can anyone explain this error message and/or how I can ameliorate the condition? I am not in fact opening a file, and as far as I can tell, the only adverse effect is the nuisance of the pop-up. It began after an Erase and Install because of HD problems. brudgers
I had a similar error message on windows. It was generated when Vectorworks tried to perform an automatic backup to a user specified location. In my case it was a shared local directory mapped as a network drive. Quote Link to comment
islandmon
OSX could've been indexing at the time ... that's a common error when the OS is busy with the file structure. Use Activity Monitor to check the status of the processes. Or as Brudgers indicates ... perhaps seeking a defunct FilePath. Quote Link to comment
brudgers
Just to clarify, the path I specified was not defunct. I just don't think vectorworks handled the reference well. Quote Link to comment
Gytis
Thank you, gentlemen. Brudgers was correct--an apparently corrupt/mangled/"mishandled" file path for the auto backup. Though it seemed to read correctly , I reset the path and all is peaches and cream. Quote Link to comment
brudgers
Glad you got it fixed. The reason I believe it was a mishandling: I mapped "localhost\shareddocs\00vectorworks user file\backup" to drive z: I set vectorworks backup to "z:\" z: was known to the windows system before starting vectorworks and after vectorworks was terminated. Some parts of Vectctorworks handling the predetermined application directories appears to be in need of a refresh. On windows it is storing some paths in Dos compatibility mode (e.g. "C:\Progra~2\Vector~1\"). I know some user paths are returned in this form, while others will return a proper Windows path name (e.g. "C:\program files(x86)\Vectorworks 2008\". Quote Link to comment

Gotta luv the technological irony of this recent discovery ... provided by our foremost VW+OSX detractor ; ) Could it be than many of the oft discussed failings of VW+WinXP are in some bizarre way linked to DOS ! honestly .. i just can't stop laughing ... what a hoot ... ; 0 Quote Link to comment
brudgers
It's vectorscript that sometimes returns file paths in the old format using; Alrtdialog(getfolderpath(x)). I know it's hard for some people to wrap their heads around the idea of a company being committed to long term support and maintaining compatiblity even though it might cost them a few sales. But it really does happen. Some software companies even do things like this: http://www.browserforthebetter.com Even if it isn't as cool as new ringtones. Ray Libby
PLN, where did you purchase Vectorworks? Quote Link to comment
nycL45
Removed by author. Solution: used forward slash in file name instead of hyphen. Edited September 18, 2009 by nycL45 Quote Link to comment
