serial numbers

Recommended Posts

I just bought a new Mac Titanium G4. I have been using a desktop PC with Vectorworks 8 and Renderworks until now. I want to use the programs on the G4, however I no longer posess the little stickers with my serial numbers, only the discs. When prompted by Vectorworks for serial numbers I tried putting in the ones I see at launch of Vectorworks on my PC but it claims they are invalid and asks for the serial numbers on the back of my discs which I also tried to no avail. Please advise. Thankyou

Mac and Windows serial numbers are different. I don't believe that we currently provide serial numbers for both applications.

If you are a registered user, you can probably get any serial numbers you own by calling customer service.

Thanks for the reply. Of course that makes sense. I was hoping to get to work this weekend but I guess it will have to wait.

I called customer service this morning and was told that the only way I could get working serial numbers was to buy a $315 upgrade! This does not seem fair to me considering that I paid good money for this program. I bought the laptop so I could travel and work this week and getting an upgrade by mail is going to cost me time and be a pain in the ass as I fly around the US. That is considering that I do indeed buy it. This is not good customer service.

You will find that few commercial programs, even if they have both Windows and Mac versions, will sell you a license to use both. (Microsoft Office and Adobe Photoshop, for example, are each sold for only one platform.)

One thing you might consider is getting VirtualPC, which will at least be cheaper than the VectorWorks upgrade, and will allow you to run Windows software -- such as your current version of VectorWorks -- on a Mac.

A Titanium! coool, well if you cant work...watch a DVD, hehehe... wink.gif

sorry about your 'platform' woes, its not NNA, its the industry...thats just how they do it usually. As a mac owner you'll quickly become adept at siftin thru the wintel trash, to find the Mac stuff...Its worth it smile.gif And what a wonderfully wide screen you have.. And bulletproof, haha.

Unfortunately due to company policy (which is a fairly standard policy in the software world) serial numbers are specific per platform and only one serial number is given per licence. If we provided a serial number for both platforms we would essentially be sending out two copies per licence. The best solution that we can offer is to sell an additional seat rather than charge you for a full copy as you would find if you purchased Microsoft Office for Windows and then needed the Mac version.

As we are now in a new release, we do not have serial numbers available for version 8.x and therefore Customer Service can only offer an upgrade price to VectorWorks 9.0.1 at this time. We understand the inconvenience and frustration you are encountering. I will put into the Wish List a desire to make the licenses cross platform, however I would seriously doubt that this will be done as it is an industry standard.
