Bruce Kieffer
I own VW Architect. The only reason I bought that over Fundamentals was to get the navigation palette. I think most of you know how much that irks me! Anyway, I am planning on upgrading to VW 2010 when it's released. I was considering switching to Machine Design since my work is designing furniture. I've looked at the tools sets comparisons, and I don't really see how Machine Design would be of benefit to me. I use a lot of wood screws in my drawings. I don't see a tool for that in any of the VW products, just machine screws. Could those of you who use Machine Design please give me your opinions if it might be better for what I do, or am I just as well off staying with Architect? Quote Link to comment
mike m oz
Bruce I think you are probably better off staying with Architect. Have a look at Bob Wagner's fastener PIO at Vectordepot as it may do what you want: http://www.vectordepot.com/plug-ins/ Quote Link to comment
Ray Libby
I use wood screws in my detailing, this set has everything I need. Quote Link to comment
Bruce Kieffer
Ray, I see you use Z Clips. Cool! Have you made any of your screw images 3D? I have made 3 or 4. I plan to make a few more. Reality is I don't need that many, and it would be easy to change the length and/or scale and make new ones. Quote Link to comment
Bruce Kieffer
mike, I downloaded the fasteners plug-in and I try it out. Thanks. Quote Link to comment
Ray Libby
Lots of Z Clips, we do a lot of paneled rooms and paneled jambs. I don't detail in 3D at all, so no I don't have any 3D screws. BTW, I'm coming up to St. Paul for the state fair, it's been years since I've been to the fair. Quote Link to comment
Bruce Kieffer
Mike, Have you tried the Fasteners plug-in? I have it installed, and I can not get it to alter the screw threads no matter what dimensions I put in the OIP. Quote Link to comment
mike m oz
Bruce you are correct the thread length doesn't change for screws. I hadn't noticed that. Try contacting Bob Wagner to see if he can fix it. Quote Link to comment
andy c
I am a mechanical design engineer. I do not see any advantage in the features set of Machine Design over Fundamentals. The collections of screws, pins, gears, etc. may be helpful to some. However vendors of such components make 3D CAD models available for download. VW should have a greased path for importing those models and putting into a symbol library. Does anyone know how to do that? Quote Link to comment
AndiACD
andy c, Greased? Maybe not, but if VW can open your third party 3D model/s, then just do the Apple/Option/c shortcut and create your own symbol/s. OK, so if you have a heap of parts you want to use it's a painful longwinded process, but it works. Quote Link to comment
mike m oz
Bruce Vw 2010 Architect has both 2D and 3D screws. No 3D bolts though. Quote Link to comment
