AN Design
Does anyone know as of yet if VW2009 will be compatible w/ new operating system soon to be released ? Quote Link to comment

Kevin McAllister
This is a good question given that Snow Leopard is shipping on Friday. Will the current version of Vectorworks 2009 run without problems under Snow Leopard? Will Vectorworks 2010 be Snow Leopard ready out of the box? KM Quote Link to comment
mclaugh
Given that 2009 does not run without problems under ANY version of Leopard, it is extremely unlikely that it will run without problems in Snow Leopard. Quote Link to comment
Bob Holtzmann
Earlier this year, I had to buy a new Intel MacBook Pro to run Vw 2009, since NNA stopped G4 support. But now, with Snow Leopard running as Intel only, I am wondering if PPC support will end altogether with Vw 2010. I guess we'll have to wait until mid-September for that answer, with the anticipated annual upgrade. Quote Link to comment
RubenH
Think there will be no problem with Vw and snow leopard. I have read that almost any app is running quite well in snow. The benchmarks are really good too. Quote Link to comment
rDesign
It would still be nice to get confirmation from NNA about whether or not Vw2010 will be the only version supported in 10.6. Adobe has stated that they are only supporting CS4 (CS3 has minor bugs in Photoshop & Dreamweaver). And not everything runs perfectly under Snow Leopard: see the following link to a Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard Compatibility List Regards, Tim Quote Link to comment
Sky
I agree. They should release a statement about Snow Leopard compatibility. Why are they so silent on the matter? Quote Link to comment

Kevin McAllister
Thanks Ray. This is good information to have. Clearly VW2009 is not compatible at the moment. Something I would not have wanted to discover after the fact. KM Quote Link to comment
rb-arch
Irritating, why couldn't they have tested it while SL was being developed. Quote Link to comment
Pat Stanford
Since they made the recommendation before Snow Leopard was released (check the KnowledgeBase for more details of the problems), obviously they did test it before SL was being developed. Remember, Apple is notoriously closed mouthed and requires absolute compliance with non-disclosure. NNA could not have said anything until SL was at least announced. And until they get a truly shipping copy of SL, I (and I believe, NNA) would not want to make any guarantees of any kind until they had tested on a released version. I am certain they will be working as quickly as they can to get it out. Since they have provided a fairly certain date (November), they must have a pretty good idea of how serious the problems are and how to fix them. We all just need to put our "shiny apple object lust" on hold for a little while. ;-) Quote Link to comment
Kevin McAllister
From what I read in a review of Snow Leopard from Macworld, their Non Disclosure agreement expired last night (August 26) at 6pm. I suspect NNA was probably under the same NDA.... hence no formal comment until today. KM Quote Link to comment
D Wood
Well, lets hope an announcement is soon. This site http://snowleopard.wikidot.com/ says that VW2008 and earlier will not be supported. Does that mean earlier versions won't run at all? Quote Link to comment
Hugo
I am using 10.6 and VW 2009 and while it is true it quits everytime I try to import any DWG file, it is running fine for me. I'll keep you up to date. Quote Link to comment
Spunkmeyer
Folks, there was an announcement as Ray Libby posted earlier: http://kbase.vectorworks.net/questions/706/Vectorworks++%26+Mac+OS+X+Snow+Leopard+V+10.6 You'll also find a tech bulletin that posted on this forum site yesterday: http://techboard.nemetschek.net/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=128018 Quote Link to comment
rb-arch
^^ maybe I'll try my laptop first LOL Quote Link to comment
ThreeDot
Developers have been receiving Snow Leopard builds for months, including the final, or near final, build (10A432) several weeks ago, and would have a pretty good bead on any issues / problems. Discussing compatibility with an upcoming OS release is not a violation of NDA; it's a business decision. Quote Link to comment

Discussing compatibility with an upcoming OS release is not a violation of NDA; it's a business decision. That was my point. If they are a developer, why aren't they prepared enough to launch a service pack within a few days of the official release? Now they need another 6 weeks? Quote Link to comment
Spunkmeyer
I don't mean to offend (much), but both of you have obviously never been involved in software development. There is no guarantee from build to build that something that once worked isn't broken by a new seed. That's true for beta versions of OSes and applications. You don't rush a half-assed "compatibility patch" without thorough testing. And CAD is one of the more complex software products that's been created. Quote Link to comment
Spunkmeyer
One more point I'll make: take a look at any Mac-related web site and you'll see there are many products that currently aren't working with Snow Leopard. Either all of these companies are equally incompetent - seeing how they've had the final build of SL a few weeks - or it's a more complex issue than you think. Also (well maybe two points), take a look at the ArchiCAD web site: there's neither a tech bulletin or forum post there that indicates their compatibility status as-is with Snow Leopard. Tiger->Leopard required a patch; Leopard->Snow Leopard requires one too. The phrases "bleeding edge" and "early adopter" exist for a reason. Quote Link to comment
ThreeDot
Actually, I do work in software development. Perhaps my comment was hastily written, but you read to much into it. I was responding to previous comments without bias or judgment against Nemetschek NA. I wouldn't expect software as complex as Vectorworks (with dual platform support, legacy code, outside vendors, multiple localizations, etc.) to be reliably compatible on day 1. Anything to the contrary would be irresponsible. Oh, nevermind. Quote Link to comment
Kevin McAllister
One could also assume that Nemetschek's group of programmers are also focussing on Vectorworks 2010, including its Snow Leopard compatibility, before they will be looking back to 2009...... KM Quote Link to comment

Bob Holtzmann
I just got around to reading the Tech Bulletin on Snow Leopard ---- only AFTER I bought the Snow Leopard upgrade this morning (while expecting wrongly to install it next week). But it's only $30, and I'll just have to wait until November for the sp5 update. The Snow Leopard Compatibility List was also very helpful in updating certain Applications for Snow Leopard -- for me, only a few, including Notebook, CyberDuck and Onyx need updates, which are not available yet. I was also surprised to find that Vw2008 will not get an update for Snow Leopard -- is this because Vw2010 will be released in Sept., and NNA only updates new and previous consecutive versions? There was not this much system incompatibility since the release of MacOS 10.0. Maybe Apple should call it MacOS 11.0 instead of 10.6 if the system architecture is so much different.
