michaelk
Looking for more DTM wisdom. The giant triangular impact craters are outside my fence. What happened? thanks michaelk Quote Link to comment
islandmon
Your DTM datum has a few pesky Z=0 values lurking in the hillside. Quote Link to comment
Rossford
Before you run your model, I suggest you check your 3D polys not only in plan view, but in Section view. That usually catches points that you forgot to add the Z value to. Quote Link to comment
michaelk
Thanks, I'll go digging for stray geometry. If I find anything, is it possible to remove it from an existing DTM? michaelk Quote Link to comment
Rossford
You can remove it, reassign the Z value, move it, etc. Changing the Z value would take place in the Object info pallette. Removing would be selecting and performing any operation in any view/ I have found that moving a 3D loci or point seems to work best in plan view, but it also seems to de-assign its Z value and it has to be have new input in the object info pallette. michaelk
Turns out there are no stray objects at z=0 or anywhere else. The craters only appear in the proposed views. They are outside the fence, in an area that is in a concave cove or bay of the fence. Any other ideas? Thanks michaelk Quote Link to comment
islandmon
They are outside the fence, in an area that is in a concave cove or bay of the fence. Does this mean that you're are using an arc rather than segmented fence ? Quote Link to comment
michaelk
No. the fence is converted from a polygon. The segments make up a little concave area where are the craters are. michaelk Quote Link to comment
michaelk
I'm continuing to have craters that are only in the proposed view of the DTM and outside the fence. I've double checked, made new DTMs from scratch - I'm pretty sure I don't have any stray geometry hanging out. And it doesn't show up in the existing view of the DTM. Only the proposed. Any ideas??? thanks michaelk Quote Link to comment
mike m oz
If you post the DTM file one of us can have a look at it and try to find out what the problem is. Quote Link to comment
Rossford
Isn't there some kind of smoothing setting that might take out some of that angularity? Quote Link to comment
michaelk
If you post the DTM file one of us can have a look at it and try to find out what the problem is. Here is a link to the DTM: http://web.me.com/smallgroup/sg/Mystery_Craters.html It is just over the 5mb limit to post here. Thanks in advance, everyone... michaelk Quote Link to comment
mike m oz
Michaelk I don't get the craters you do (see image below). The file you posted doesn't have the source data for the DTM in it so my guess is that the problem is with your source data. Probably 3D loci at the incorrect height. Check for 3D loci that are in invisible Class. Quote Link to comment
michaelk
Now I'm really confused... I just downloaded the file I posted and I STILL get the craters... michaelk Quote Link to comment
mike m oz
The 2D I see is quite different to yours. Have you checked your source 3D data to make sure there aren't 3d loci (visible or invisible) where there shouldn't be. Quote Link to comment
michaelk
Weird. It's the exact same file... Is there a setting that could explain it? michaelk Quote Link to comment
michaelk
SP1 Updating fixed it. Thanks for your help, Mike. michaelk Quote Link to comment
