Recessed lights in soffits

Recommended Posts

What is the best way to put recessed, or can, lights into a gypsum board soffit. Would you have to cut round openings in the surface to allow the light to shine through?

If the soffit is an extrude (or floor) double click on it to get the 2D shape and use Clip Surface to form the 2D holes in the shape.

This is what I mean....

In this example the soffit has a texture that doesn't cast shadows. The fixture symbol has an ies data light source, and the geometry of the fixture is taken from the dxf provided by the manufacturer.

No need to "drill" a hole in the soffit. Just insert the symbol and set the z value.
