Edit the list of default wall styles

Recommended Posts

If you make a new file with your desired will types and put it in a workgroup folder referenced in preferences > user folders, the wall types in that custom file will appear at the top of the list and you will still have access to all the default wall types.

As the above messages state, there is a file in the Vectorworks Application folder, Libraries, Defaults, Walls. Actually there are two files, one for Imperial and one for Metric.

If you want to delete some of the stock styles, just edit those files to only include the styles you want.

There is (or can be) a similar directory path in your User folder. If you want to include your own styles, it is best to create a new VW file that contains your styles at the correct location in the users folders.

Depending on your system (Please add a signature with your hardware & software specs [My Stuff above] and it will be easier to help you in the future) the User folder is normally in the following locations:

Windows XP:

C:\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\Nemetschek\Vectorworks\2009\

Windows Vista:

C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Nemetschek\Vectorworks\2009

Macintosh:

/Users//Library/Application Support/Vectorworks/2009/

Archoncad just released a podcast about this:

Wall Styles are Resources. Deleting them from the drawing window in the Wall Styles Metric.vwx file doesn't delete them as resources in that file.

In Vw 2008 and earlier default content only exists in the main Library folder. In Vw 2009 default content can be in either the main Library folder or the User Library folder.

To remove content from the default menus all you need to do is remove the file from its sub folder in the Library Defaults folder(s). Conversely to add content place files in the appropriate sub folder in the User Library Defaults folder.
