This is my first post in this community, and I'm not sure if this is the right forum, but...
I'm having difficulties exporting binary stl files of adequate quality to submit to Rapid prototype fabricators. Even when the slider in the dialogue box is set to the highest level (more polygons), the resulting files are too coarsely faceted.
According to an engineer at one of these RP fabricators, the perfect facet size is around .020" - not too detailed to make the file size unmanageable, and not too coarse to make the resulting part unusable. The best stl files I have managed to generate have facets larger than .030".
Also, I've discovered that if I make a series of stl exports from the same vwx file at subsequent stages of 3D modeling, the resulting stl files become less and less detailed as the shape becomes more complex. In fact, the first file is actually larger in file size than the last.
Does anyone have any experience with exporting stl files?
